Fourty Four Students Participate In Journalism Training

Forty Four students of Xaverius 1 Junior High School attending Journalism Training for 2 days schedules, 4 to 5 February, in the city of Jambi, Sumatra. They are learning theory of journalism from 8 to 11 o’clock in the morning. Then from 11.30 to 3 o’clock in the afternoon, they are learning to write. They have to gather materials from many sources.

The participants were divided into groups of two. Then they determine the themes and resource persons to be interviewed. But before meeting with the interviewees, they prepared questions. This system is a practice to expedite their writing skills. After the interview with the resource persons, they rewrote it in an article.

There are articles on school activities, features, and profiles. These articles (writings) will be published as supplements in the Tabloid KOMUNIO of the Archdiocese of Palembang. These writings are also published in the form of a tabloid under its own name: Tabloid Xaverius Jambi Kuala Tungkal. This tabloid is published four times a year with Tabloid KOMUNIO.

Beatricia Nangkok, a second grade of Xaverius 1 Junior High School, said that she gets new skill of writing by participating in this training. “I like it, because I can develop my writing skills. I hope that I can write good articles.”

This training is given by team of Commission for Social Communication of Archdiocese of Palembang of South Sumatra, Indonesia.
